"It Works on My Machine (And That Should Have Been the First Red Flag)"

You push to staging. It breaks. You fix it. You push again. Seven deployments in 48 hours and you're starting to think your code is personally offended by the staging environment.

Here's the truth nobody tells you: "Works on my machine" isn't a bug report — it's a bug. It means your local environment and production are two different planets, and you've been testing on the wrong one.

Every time you say "works on my machine," you're admitting that your build process can't be reproduced. That's the real problem. Not the missing library. Not the wrong Python version. The fact that there's a gap between your dev box and wherever the code actually runs.

What to do about it:
  • Containerize your dev environment (Docker Compose with the exact same images as staging)

  • Use the same dependency resolver in CI as locally (lock files, pinned versions)

  • Run your test suite against a local container that mirrors production

  • Treat environment drift like a bug — because it is

"Your code doesn't get a 'works on my machine' pass in production. Build an environment that earns that confidence before you push."

💪 Build it once. Run it everywhere. Sleep well tonight.
